I first became involved with the Church of Te Wairua Tapu when I attended a tangi (funeral) with Reverend Jim Tahere, Enoka Daniels and Malcolm Karipa in Newcastle in 1993. However, when Reverend Ngarahu Katene arrived in 1994, my involvement with our church became a passion. I was confirmed in 1996 and in the same year Bishop Whakahuihui Vercoe (Te Pihopa o Aotearoa) made me a church elder. I was a member of the Te Wairua Tapu Choir organized by Reverend Ngarahu Katene in 1995 and am now involved in the Sydney Maori Anglican Choir (SMAC). When Reverend Malcolm Karipa arrived in 2000, I became his kuia and kaikaranga, a position that Im privileged to hold. I have travelled back to New Zealand to witness the induction of Bishop Ngarahu Katene (Te Pihopa o Te Manawa o Te Wheke) and the induction of Archdeacon Malcolm Karipa . At 79 years old im the oldest member of Kahui Wahine Poihakena and our Prayer Group and I love my Church and the people here. Ive had 12 children and many mokopuna and call Sydney my home
